The Christian life is not about striving harder, fixing ourselves, or trying to make everything work. It’s about resting in what Jesus has already done.

Resting in the Finished Work of Christ

Sometimes I have to remind myself—and I want to remind you—that what I’m sharing isn’t something new. I’m not here to teach you anything novel, but to point us back to what has always been true: the miracle of Christ living in us.

The Christian life is not about striving harder, fixing ourselves, or trying to make everything work. It’s about resting in what Jesus has already done. His work on the cross was complete. It was final. Nothing can be added to it, and nothing can take away from it.

When We Feel Unsure

Many of us wrestle with uncertainty in our faith. We wouldn’t call it doubt, but there are times when we feel unsure about God’s plan or His presence in our lives. Those are the moments when we must go back to the cross and remember:

  • Jesus has forgiven every sin.

  • The debt against us has been wiped away.

  • He has already defeated the powers of darkness.

Paul writes in Colossians 2 that “you are complete in Him.” Not “almost complete” or “working toward completion”—but already complete.

Beware of Distractions

Paul also warns us to be on guard. There are so many voices in the world, both inside and outside the church, that can make us feel lacking. Sometimes it’s philosophy, sometimes tradition, sometimes even our own reasoning. They may sound wise, but if they pull us away from the simplicity of Christ, they are distractions.

Anything that leaves you feeling less than complete in Him is not from the Lord.

Christ in You

Here’s the truth that still takes my breath away: Christ lives in you.

That means you carry His presence wherever you go—into your workplace, your home, your conversations, and even into your struggles. You are His hands, His feet, His voice in the world.

And this isn’t about trying harder to be holy. It’s about trusting Him to live through you. When we rest in Him, He expresses His love, His wisdom, and His power through our everyday lives.

Grace That Awakens

I can’t count the number of times I’ve tried to “do better” in my own strength, only to fail and feel discouraged. But grace doesn’t work that way. Grace is God’s power working in us, changing us from the inside out.

Sometimes it happens quietly—an awakening, a shift in the heart where suddenly what once seemed impossible becomes possible. That’s not self-effort; that’s Christ living in you.

It Is Finished

When Jesus said, “It is finished,” He meant it. The debt was canceled. The law was fulfilled. Every opposing force was disarmed.

We don’t live under the weight of performance anymore. We live in the freedom of grace. That means today, right now, you are free to rest in Him.

A Prayer

Father, thank You for the finished work of Christ. Thank You that I don’t have to strive to earn Your love, I already have it. Help me to stay aware of Christ living in me and let my life reflect His presence in every moment. Teach me to rest, to trust, and to walk in Your grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
