Be grateful for God’s word, for this moment, and for the people who gather not just to hear a message, but to receive it and be open-hearted.

Let the Holy Spirit shift our understanding. And today, the shift is big:

Adam is not your origin story. Jesus is.

Let’s talk about it.

🌀 Last Time: Reconciling Atonement

In our previous message, we explored the word propitiation—how we’ve been taught that Jesus was sacrificed to appease an angry God. But Scripture paints a different picture. The word, when looked at more deeply, means to be merciful, to reconcile, to restore a close relationship.

Jesus didn’t come to change God’s mind about us—He came to change our minds about God.

🔁 This Time: A New Lens, A New Beginning

We often live as though the fall of Adam is our beginning—as if our story starts in shame and separation. But what if we’ve been looking at it all wrong?

Let’s go to Genesis 1:26–28:

“Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness...’ So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them... And God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good.”

Man—you—were made in God’s image. And it was very good.

But then, Genesis 3 comes along. Eve believed a lie, Adam joined her in it, and suddenly, shame, blame, and separation enter the scene. We’ve often taken that moment as our starting point. But that’s not where your story really begins.

🔍 Cain’s Mistake: The Power of Inherited Perspective

In Genesis 4, we see Cain—angry, fearful, lost. And when God asks him why his countenance has fallen, He offers Cain a chance to realign:

“Sin lies at the door. Its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”

Cain chose not to rule over it.

But what’s key here is how Cain interprets God’s actions. Just like Eve, he misunderstood what God said. He operated under a false lens—a lens likely shaped by how he saw Adam’s story. The story of shame and exile.

Cain saw himself through Adam’s failure, not God’s truth. And we often do the same.

💡 The Paradigm Shift: Jesus Is the Last Adam

We need a better origin story. Let’s be clear:

“The first Adam was created by the last Adam.”

Let that sink in.

Christ isn’t plan B. He’s not the backup Savior to fix an old mistake. He is the origin.

📖 Let the Word Speak

Let’s go to John 1:

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God... All things were made through Him... In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.”

That’s Jesus. He was there from the very beginning—not just as a figure on standby, but as the very origin and architect of creation.

Now Colossians 1:15–17 takes it further:

“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created... and in Him all things consist.”

So who is your true origin?

Not Adam. Jesus.

You weren’t made in the image of a fallen man—you were made in the image of the risen Christ.

🛑 Let’s Pause Here: What Lies Are You Believing?

When we accept Adam as our beginning, we accept shame as part of our design. We accept separation, struggle, and sin as inevitable parts of our identity.

But Colossians says:

“You, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind... yet now He has reconciled... to present you holy and blameless and above reproach in His sight.”

Where did the alienation happen? In your mind.

Not in God’s heart. Not in God’s plan.

🧬 You Are His Workmanship

Let’s bring it home with Ephesians 2:10:

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

You were created in Christ. Not in Adam. Not in the fall. Not in failure. In Christ. That means:

  • Your life was planned before the world was.

  • Your purpose existed before sin entered the story.

  • Your identity is found in Him, not in shame.

🪞 So, Who Are You Really?

You are His poetry, His design. Uniquely crafted to look like Jesus in character, not in carbon copy. Fully equipped to live out the goodness He formed in you. Only you can do it the way you do it.

You were formed for this time, in this place, on purpose.

🎧 Final Thoughts from a Podcast...

Some lines I heard recently deeply stirred my spirit:

  • “Adam has been dead your whole life. Only Christ remains.”

  • “We think Adam accomplished more than Jesus. But Jesus is the greater reality.”

  • “You don’t have to wait to identify with Christ. You don’t have to wait to be better or to go to heaven. Jesus is your origin now.”

Let that settle in.

You don’t start from sin.You start from resurrection.

🙏 Closing Prayer

Father God, thank you for adopting us as your sons and daughters. Thank you for creating us in Christ—for good, for purpose, for love. Help us, Lord, to see ourselves and others the way you see us: not in Adam’s failure, but in Christ’s victory.

Adjust our lens. Clear our vision. Set our hearts and minds back on the truth:

Jesus is our origin. Jesus is where we begin.

Amen.

If this message resonated with you, share it. Let’s help others shed the false lens of shame and embrace the truth of our origin in Christ.
