Speak the Word Only: Living from the Inside Out
“Lord, I am not worthy that you should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed.” — Matthew 8:8
There’s a deep, steady power in words—especially when those words are rooted in faith. The centurion in Matthew chapter 8 understood this. He told Jesus, “Just speak the word, and my servant will be healed.” He understood the authority of a spoken word, and Jesus marveled at his faith.
Faith doesn’t wait for external evidence. It doesn’t ask for confirmation or comfort. Real faith says, “Just speak. Just say the word.”
And this morning, I want to remind you: You have that same power in your mouth.
The Drive Down and a Divine Question
On my drive to speak this word, I was multitasking like only I can—listening to music, praying, and dialoguing with God all at once. A worship song came on declaring God’s mightiness, and the Spirit whispered to me, “If you believe I’m mighty, why don’t you believe I can be mighty in your health?”
Whew.
It stopped me. Because sometimes we sing about what we haven’t fully believed. And that’s not condemnation. That’s revelation. God wasn’t pointing a finger. He was pointing out a direction: Step into what you say you believe. It’s already done.
Decree Over Diagnosis
I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it: What you decree, you manifest. Words are not empty. They are energy. They shape the matter of your life.
I was diagnosed with diabetes some years ago. But that is not who I am. That’s not my name. I began decreeing over myself every morning:
“Marcia, in the name of Jesus, your heart beats with the rhythm of life. Your pancreas functions perfectly. Your body is in harmony. I decree vitality and energy over you. Get up and move about, girl!”
And when I went to the doctor, what did she say? “Marcia, you are healthy.”
I said, “I know.” 🙌🏽
That’s the fruit of speaking what God says even when your body says something else.
Faith Is Now—Not Later
Hebrews 11 reminds us that faith is the substance—not the hope, not the wish. The substance. It is the tangible foundation of what you can’t yet see.
If you’re waiting until you “feel” healed to believe you’re healed, you’ve missed the method. We walk by faith, not by what’s going on in our joints, our bank accounts, or our news feeds.
You already have what you need. God has dealt to every man the measure of faith. You just have to use it.
Speak the word only.
Practitioners vs. The Physician
Let me say this plain: doctors are practitioners. God is the Great Physician. There’s a difference.
Some of these practitioners are still googling while you’re sitting in their office. And God bless them for their service—but the Word is your final authority. God’s wisdom can whisper louder than a lab result.
Sometimes you’ll feel a nudge: Ask for this test. Don’t take that medication. Wait. That’s the Holy Spirit. That’s God watching over your health. So, listen. Tune in. Decree what heaven says over your body.
Framing Your World with Words
Hebrews 11:3 says the worlds were framed by the Word of God. So, what’s framing your world?
If you’re not careful, you’ll let stress, fear, or past trauma write your script. But God says, “Choose life!”
I decreed I will age gracefully. I will live in strength. I will not decline, I will thrive. And not just for me, but for my children, and my children’s children.
One day, my daughter said something profound: “Mama, I can look at each one of my children and tell what emotional space I was in when I conceived them.”
That’s how powerful our inner world is. It spills out into the next generation. So yes—speak life, not just for you, but for those coming behind you.
Meditation: Your Inner Rewiring
Proverbs 4:20–22 says, “Attend to my words…for they are life to those who find them and health to all their flesh.”
That’s not poetic. That’s literal. Neuroscience is even catching up: speaking intentionally for just 30 seconds a day can alter your DNA and even affect your grandchildren’s biology.
Every morning now, I talk to myself in the mirror. I bless my body, I bless my mind, I bless my family. Why? Because I know what I say matters. And I know who lives in me.
The Christ in me is not passive. He is not silent. He is active, alive, and working waiting for me to speak so He can perform His word.
Be Still. Then Speak.
Sometimes we need to stop doing and start being. Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still and know.”
Ten minutes of stillness in the morning—no TV, no phone, no coffee—is hard. But it’s transformative. In that stillness, God often says the most profound things.
And from that stillness, you speak. Not noise. Not worry. But truth.
You Have the Authority
Jesus said, “You shall decree a thing, and it shall be established.” Not your pastor. Not your prayer partner. You.
So, what are you saying over your life? Over your health? Over your future?
Speak the word only—and watch your life begin to align with heaven.
A Final Thought
God knows what you need before you ask (Matthew 6:8). So, your words aren’t for Him—they’re for you. They're reminders. They're blueprints. They're bricks in the house of your future.
The Word works. Not because you say it perfectly. But because you say it persistently.
So speak. Speak over your body. Speak over your children. Speak over your finances. Speak over your emotions. Speak over your future.
Just speak the word only.
And watch the Word do the work.
With faith and fire,Marcia BumpersLiving healed. Speaking life.
